Terms and conditions
Last updated 21 September 2026. English law. These pages are for the live UK service.
These terms are a contract between you and the operator of LendHands, trading as LendHands from the United Kingdom (we, us). Contact: hello@lendhands.co.uk. By creating an account, posting, messaging, paying a fee, or using the site, you agree to these terms and to our privacy notice.
This is a marketplace notice, not personal legal advice. If you are unsure about tax, employment status or insurance, speak to an accountant or solicitor.
1. What LendHands is — and is not
LendHands is an online noticeboard and directory. People who need help post an advert. People who have spare time list themselves as available. You talk in private chat, agree the job, the price and how you pay each other.
We are not:
- your employer, the other person’s employer, or a joint employer
- an employment agency or employment business that finds work for you or supplies workers
- a party to the job contract between neighbours
- a mediator, arbitrator or complaints ombudsman for that job
- an insurer, guarantor or escrow service for the work or for cash paid between you
- a tax adviser
We do not set, recommend or approve job prices. We do not choose who you hire. We do not supervise the work. We do not take a cut of the money you pay each other for the job. Our only charges are the small platform fees listed on the service and price list. Those fees pay for running and developing the app (hosting, support, listings and features).
2. Who may use it
You must be 18 or over and able to enter a contract in the UK. You must use your real name. You must not use LendHands for anyone else’s account. Jobs and listings are for lawful, neighbourly one-off help (for example gardening, removals, housekeeping, garage clearance) — not ongoing employment, licensed trades you are not qualified for, or anything illegal.
3. Platform fees only
Advertisers pay a one-off fee to place or feature an advert, and may pay to bump it. People available for work pay a monthly listing subscription, and may pay to bump their listing. Prices are on the service and price list and are shown again before you pay.
Those fees are administration and product fees for the software. They are not wages, agency fees for finding work, or payment for the job itself. Cancelling a subscription stops the listing at the end of the paid period. It does not cancel any job you already agreed with someone else.
If you are a consumer in the UK you normally have 14 days to cancel a distance contract. If you ask us to start the listing or publish the advert straight away, you agree the service starts at once and that we may charge for the time it was live if you later cancel. Monthly subscriptions renew until you cancel in your account.
4. You agree the job — we do not
Any contract for the work is solely between the person who needs help and the person who does it. You decide timing, price, tools, access to the property, and how you pay (cash, bank transfer or otherwise). We do not hold that money and we do not step into disputes about quality, no-shows, damage, injury, theft, underpayment or overpayment. If something goes wrong, that is between you. You should check identity, references, insurance and the property before work starts.
5. Tax is yours
LendHands does not calculate, collect, report or pay your income tax, National Insurance, VAT, corporation tax or any other tax on money you earn or spend through jobs arranged on the app. If you are paid for work you may need to tell HMRC (self-assessment, and VAT if you go over the threshold). We do not give tax advice and we are not responsible if you fail to declare earnings. Keep your own records.
Because job money is agreed and paid between users off the platform, we usually cannot see what you were paid for a job. Do not rely on us for tax paperwork.
6. Content you upload
You are responsible for your profile photo, job photos, descriptions, messages, reviews and any other content. You confirm you have the right to post it, that it is accurate enough to be fair, and that it is not illegal, defamatory, discriminatory, pornographic, or someone else’s private information. Do not post other people’s children, bank details, or anything that could help a crime.
You give us a non-exclusive licence to host, display and moderate that content so the service can run. We may refuse, edit or remove content, hide a listing, or close an account if we believe these terms or the law are broken. We do not have to monitor everything in advance. When we are told about illegal content we will act promptly, as required under the UK Online Safety Act for user-to-user services.
Reviews must be honest and about a real job. Fake or abusive reviews may be removed.
7. Payments we take
Card and Google Pay for platform fees are handled by the payment provider. We do not store your full card number, CVC or wallet PAN. We keep a record that a fee was paid or failed (amount, time, product, status) so we can run your listing and send a receipt or reminder. Chargebacks for platform fees should be raised with your bank and with us at the email above.
8. Accounts
Keep your password secret. You may delete your account from the account page. We may keep copies the law says we must keep (for example payment records). We may suspend accounts that look automated, fraudulent, under-age, or harmful to other users.
9. Liability
The app is provided as a listing tool. We do not promise that a job will be filled, that a hand is skilled or insured, or that the site will always be up. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Apart from that, we are not liable for loss arising from a job between users, from content another user posted, from tax you owe, or from you relying on a listing. Our total liability to you for platform fees in a year is limited to the fees you paid us in that year.
10. Changes and law
We may update these terms. The new version applies from the date at the top once it is on this page. English and Welsh law applies. Courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, without affecting consumer rights you have in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
